Merry Christmas!

I made it to the end of the week with my 7 days of blogging, as promised. Small victories.

I’m off to have an amazing meal with my loved ones. I’m so blessed that my family has been able to visit me and spend my first Christmas in the PNW with me! Large blessings.

Merry Christmas to you and yours. Treasure what little, or much, you have right in front of you.

Much love,

Amy

Christmas Week Day 7: A Parang Eve

December 24, 2016

My adorable family is coming to visit me this Christmas and I can’t wait! Of course, that meant that this entire day was dedicated to one thing: preparations!

Essentially, clean everything. Make the apartment spotless. Wash all the sheets and towel – freshness! Make all the beds they’ll sleep in. The last being quite important since they get in around midnight tonight and they’ll be exhausted!

Of course, none of this is interesting and all of it is tiring but Christmas music is a MUST. Not just any Christmas music: Parang! Continue reading

Christmas Week Day 4: Caribbean Rum Cake

December 21, 2016

Rum cake, fruit cake, black cake, great cake – all names for the same thing. Why? Because its got fruit, it’s got rum, it’s dark and it’s just great. Yet another Caribbean Christmas food item I won’t find in the US, certainly not in the Pacific Northwest. I haven’t made my own rum cake before because I’ve always had a source from which I could simply purchase it. I figured now is the best time to test my extremely minimal baking skills. Why? Because it’s the Christmas season. I got my sorrel and I want my rum cake! Continue reading

Candy Houses

I usually don’t get too much into the holiday spirit since I was never really raised in that kind of household. Last year, I had my first tree. This year I don’t since I’ll be away from my Portland home this Christmas. I seemingly have been making up for it with a new first: ginger bread house making! Or graham cracker house making? Candy house!

Out of 6 houses, mine placed 3rd. (I’m pretty sure it deserved 1st place but who wouldn’t think their work of architecture was worth 1st place?) For a first time house maker, I’d say it turned out pretty decent though!
