Tired

With each upgrade in life, you learn a whole new kind of tired.

As a medical student, it’s more often mental tiredness that governs your life. Yes, we stand a whole lot and walk around the hospital trailing after our seniors eager (or not) to learn during our clinical years. We learn to find ways to soothe our aching feet along with our tired aching minds and we think to ourselves “boy, I’m so exhausted.”

As an intern, the mental tiredness isn’t so much an issue since the books are now shelved away to collect a little dust. We move a lot more…we’re doing more physical activities: rounds on the patients, phlebotomy, IV cannulation, chasing lab results, ensure patients receive their meds, and many other minuscule jobs that make interns run up and down the hospital. Running up and down the hospital during the night on call surely takes its toll while hoping you’ll get some sleep during a 24 hour call. Ah, that’s a whole new kind of tiredness.
